FLOWERING TREES

FLOWERING TREES

The first sign of spring in the South are not crotons poking up through the snow, but the blooms of trees such as redbuds, native flowering plums, flowering cherries or Japanese Magnolias. Some years, it seems like the leaves have finally just fallen from the trees when the first new blossoms begin to bud out after a few warm days in January. These spring flowers signal the renewal of the seasons. The beautiful white, pink, and purple splashes of color against the brown and gray background of the winter is a sign of hope as the cycle begins all over again.

Many flowering trees also have beautiful foliage in the fall, as well as unique bark coloration during the dormant season. Many flowering trees also produce seed or fruits that are valuable food for wildlife and birds.

Every yard should have flowering trees as part of the landscape!
