When & How We Ship

SHIPPING DATES

PLEASE NOTE - BECAUSE OF THE ONSET OF SPRING, OUR SHIPPING OF BARE ROOT FRUIT AND FLOWERING TREES IS CLOSED FOR SPRING 2010.  Container grown trees can still be picked up directly from the farm.

WE ARE STILL SHIPPING CHESTNUT TREES
THROUGH EARLY APRIL.

We ship trees via UPS or Fedex Freight during the dormant season (January through early April).  We ship to Zones 8-9 in January-early February, to Zones 7-8 in February-early March, and progressively north to Zones 5-6 in late March-early April.  After that time it is too hot to store plants any longer here in Florida.  Other times of year plants must be picked up directly at the nursery.

We normally ship on Mondays and Tuesdays, so the plants arrive to you before the weekend.  We make every effort to watch the weather and avoid shipping out into a snow storm, but we all know the weatherman does not always predict it correctly!  If your trees appear to have frozen, please contact us immediately upon receipt.

We will notify you of the exact date by email the day we ship your order.

SHIPPING ZONES
Please note that most shippers do not include the ship day, Saturday or Sunday as part of transit times. Plants should not ship over 4 or 5 days. If you are in a 4, 5 or 6 day transit area, you may wish to select a 2-Day or 3-Day service as your shipping method. If you are in a 1, 2 or 3 day transit area, you are safe to select a ground shipping method.

SHIPPING COSTS

Because of the variability of tree sizes even within one product, it is not feasible to have pre-determined prices calculated individually for each item.  For this reason, we use a % charge of the $ total for the order.  We make every effort to keep the cost of shipping as economical as possible for you.

Shipping cost includes all handling charges including pulling plants from the field, labeling, sorting, removing pots and some soil, bagging, wrapping, and packaging.

Shipping and handling costs are calculated on the subtotal before sales tax.

Ground Shipping Rates:
$50.00-$100.00 = $20.00
$100.00-$1000.00 = Approximately 20%
greater than $1000.00 = Actual cost of freight plus 5% handling, determined day of shipping based on weight of package.

Express 2 and 3 day Shipping Rates:
Actual cost of freight, plus 5% for handling, determined day of shipping based on weight of package.

SHIPPING TO CA, AZ, OR, WA, HI and INTERNATIONAL
At this time, due to importation restrictions, we are not allowed to ship to CA and HI.  We can ship certain plants to OR, WA, AZ, Canada and other countries outside the U.S., but these may require an expensive Phytosanitary Permit from the State of Florida to allow importation.  Please call 1-800-669-2067 or email us at chestnuthilltreefarm@gmail.com for more information.

WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR TREES
Open the box and inspect the trees immediately upon receipt.  Unwrap the plants from their packaging and, if you cannot plant immediately, place the roots in moist peat, potting soil or soil.  Keep them cool in a cool place such as a garage or barn with the roots slightly moist and they will stay dormant until you are ready to plant. Do not let them freeze, especially the roots, as this will kill the plants. They can stay dormant and safe this way for several weeks.

If you believe that the trees may have frozen in transit, please contact us immediately.
