WAX MYRTLE
Myrica cerifera

Wax Myrtle is an evergreen shrub or small tree, also known as Bayberry, whose waxy fruits are used to make aromatic candles. Fruits are prized by many species of birds.  The Myrtle (Yellow-rumped) Warbler was named for its reliance on the fruit during winter. Its dense habit is an excellent hedge or screen, as well as protection for birds to nest or roost. Widely adapted from beach dunes to wetlands.  Another important plant in any wildlife planting.
