EASTERN RED CEDAR
Juniperus virginiana
The most widespread juniper in the east, this evergreen produces small cones that are a favorite food of birds. Cedars grow in a wide variety of habitats from beach front dunes to upland forests. Its dense foliage is excellent cover for birds and wildlife and makes a great privacy hedge. Its soft, deeply colored red wood has a wonderful aroma and is very rot resistant. Grows quickly and should be part of any wildlife planting.
