Weaver White Dogwood

WEAVER WHITE DOGWOOD
Cornus florida
No tree signals the beginning of spring like the Dogwood! Their large white flowers (actually bracts) make dogwoods the showpiece of the yard, blooming at the same time as azaleas before many of the deciduous trees leaf out. They produce attractive red berries in fall that are a favorite of wildlife and migratory birds and the foliage turns bright orange to red with the frosts of fall. Dogwoods are small trees that grow best in forest understory conditions.
We specialize in Dogwoods and grow the disease resistant cultivar Weaver that has very large flowers and is resistant to Anthracnose and powdery mildew that affect some dogwoods. Weaver was discovered in the woods near Gainesville by Dr. Harold Hume, former Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Florida, and is low chill and can be grown successfully as far south as Orlando. It is the best cultivar for the hot humid climates of the southeastern Atlantic and Gulf coasts.
