SOUTHERN MAGNOLIA
Magnolia grandiflora

The Southern Magnolia is the quintessential tree of the South. Its large, beautiful fragrant flowers bloom in late spring and summer and with its glossy evergreen foliage makes the magnolia one of the most attractive and desirable types of all landscape trees. Magnolias can be large trees and grow well throughout the South. They prefer well-drained soils and can tolerate salt along the coasts. They reach their greatest size in the uplands. Their large seeds are a valuable food source for migrating birds such as thrushes, vireos and wildlife.
